Documentation Lab III

Spring 2006

10 weeks

These plates are the result of a weekly exercise in Documentation Lab. Each week, several prompts were provided, which could include a color, a typeface, a word, a letter, a number, a story, a pattern, and a medium. From these prompts as a basis for exploration, we were to create graphically striking plates, with an emphasis on architectural imagery. This is a small selection of my collection of plates.

In addition to the plates themselves, the project included the design and construction of a folio in which to store and subsequently display the plates. My folio is a minimalist design executed in black museum board. I wanted the folio to be durable and be a pleasure to open and close, so I created hinges by sandwiching muslin fabric between layers of museum board. The hinge is strong and flexible and closes securely. An inlay in the lid, protected under acrylic, displays my personal logo and the project information.
