School exhibition design

Winter 2008

The University of Cincinnati hosted in its student union an exhibition of architectural models. The models were designed to emphasize one important aspect of the building, and each building was to be accompanied by a ten-page paper. My group chose the University of Cincinnati's Campus Recreation Center.

A few days before the project was due, the professor changed the requirements. Each ten-page paper had to be condensed into a poster. I took charge of that task.

The fundamental question of the paper is outlined clearly at the top of the poster, framing the information that follows.

Realizing that the amount of text required to convey even a paraphrase of the content of the paper was daunting to readers of a poster, I highlighted the most important information. This way, the viewer can easily read only what is necessary to understand the basic concepts and simply read the rest of the text to get the full picture.

The Campus Recreation Center is mostly shades of grey, but important parts of the building are accented in a bright chartreuse. I used the same color to give the poster a hierarchy. I coordinated with the modelbuilding group and designed the base for the model, which has laser-cut text and the chartreuse color to help tie the two parts of the project together.
