Intersecting stairProject summary »« Back to gallery Student project Design Lab III Spring 2007 3 weeks |
My design for a stair and seating unit in DAAP is both comfortable and geometrically pure. The requirements for this stair were limiting: it had to fit into and touch all sides of a 4-foot cube, while creating a journey and a destination. The "intersecting stair" has a journey up to an area with room for two people to sit and chat, while a third person can sit on another spot without disturbing the first two. The plan of the stair is formed by a grid of intersecting lines and curves, which are extruded to varying heights to create an aesthetically interesting composition. |
