Design Lab III

Spring 2006

3 weeks

The 9-square stair project was a continuation of the individual stair project into a group project. The studio chose three out of the twenty individual stair designs—of which mine was chosen—to further develop into parts of a gridded composition of stairs. My group refined Carly's cascading stair design and worked with the groups designing the neighboring stairs to create a design that served as an entry to the rest of the composition. The composition was completely modular, composed of "Lego"-like pieces which could be reconfigured into a new space. The 12'x12'x4' project was constructed and built in a public area of the design school to be used as a seating and interactions space.
